In 2011 the masterpiece "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" and remnant paper "Remain Mountain Figure" exhibited together in Taiwan after 360 years of separation. This great event inspired the entrepreneur Mr Ping and the architect Tsungjen Lin deeply and facilitated their cultural tour to complete a renovation project of transforming an old warehouse into private club "Blue Ink Stone" in Shanghai.

The spatial concept was designed with the theme of "ink stone"——imaging an inkwell was implanted in space and the pool sides were shaped according to " Fuchun Mountains", which writes an abstract and pure eternal charm and completes an natural experience in the building. It tries to magnify the "four treasures of Chinese study", to make the ink stone carry more thinking power, and to regenerate the old house with a new soul.

This building inspired a blend of the contemporary and antique, practicality and elegance, east and west. People can appreciate water falling sound at outside Crushed Stone Sea; can sip tea, red book, play chess or chat with friends around table inside; what is more, the ink stone can provide the foot bath; and the rainwater pond instead of roof of physical space in corner caused an amazing illusion . With fluid movement layout, it explores the equilibrium of art value from secular vision, experiencing the taste of life and the implication of the pleasure.

The creation started by landscape artistic conception, and extended with studying traditional architectural context. Rebuilding materials select white wall and black tiles, blue stone and white shell, and raw wood and black ink, which renewed space with spiritual flavor and attaching new humanities taste.

With the consideration of creativity and persistence, free fluid form designed for the bar and Ink-stone recreational area, challenges the construction method and also meets the demand of the function.

Designer and craftsmen supplement each other taking advantage of the technology combined with digital crafted to accomplish this experimental project, and a perfect balance is found out between
flow curve and vertical wooden house. In a certain sense, "Blue Ink Stone" also leads Chinese craftsmen to contact the traditional process and meanwhile evolves technology development.
