Suheogojin in Lijiang , Yunnan Province, China is a city where time flows slowly. Wooden houses that have endured hundreds of years, round gravelly alleys, and trees and mountain ranges with different expressions from season to season make ever yday life special. Lan Bistro Yunnan Restaurant chose to be part of that very landscape. Rather than constructing a new building, it reads the old town's texture, and quietly draws the traces of nature and people together into the space.

 

중국 윈난성 리장의 수허고진은 시간이 느리게 흐르는 도시다. 수백 년의 시간을 견뎌온 목조 가옥과 둥근 자갈이 깔린 골목, 계절마다 표정을 달리하는 나무와 산맥은 이곳의 일상을 특별한 풍경으로 만든다. Lan Bistro Yunnan Restaurant는 바로 그 풍경의 일부가 되기를 선택했다. 새로운 건축물을 세우기보다 오래된 마을의 결을 읽고, 자연과 사람이 오랜 시간 함께 만들어온 흔적을 공간 안으로 조용히 끌어들인다.

 

 

 

 

 

Before this is a restaurant for food, it is a bowl that contains the time and memories of Yunnan. Architec ture neither imitates the old nor e xag ger ates modernity. While respecting the structure and materials that existing architecture retains, new functions are added in understated language. Materials of different times create a calm tension throughout the space, harmonizing as if they h ave e xisted t ogether f or a l ong t ime. T he m ovement line resembles the experience of walking down the alley of Suhegojin. After one space is over, another landscape opens, and after passing under the low ceiling, the view suddenly expands, and the middle and terrace appear. This flow of slowly looking around and staying instead of going straight toward the destination shows the essence of the experience this restaurant is pursuing.

 

이곳은 음식을 담는 레스토랑이기 이전에 윈난이라는 지역의 시간과 기억을 담아내는 하나의 그릇이다. 건축은 오래된 것을 모방하지도, 현대성을 과장하지도 않는다. 기존 건축이 간직한 구조와 재료를 존중하면서도 새로운 기능을 절제된 언어로 덧입힌다. 서로 다른 시대의 재료들은 마치 오랜 시간 함께 존재해 온 것처럼 조화를 이루며, 공간 곳곳에 차분한 긴장감을 만든다. 동선은 마치 수허고진의 골목을 거니는 경험을 닮아 있다. 하나의 공간이 끝나면 또 다른 풍경이 열리고, 낮은 천장 아래를 지나면 갑자기 시야가 확장되며 중정과 테라스가 모습을 드러낸다. 목적지를 향해 곧게 나아가는 대신 천천히 둘러보고 머무르게 하는 이러한 흐름은 이 레스토랑이 추구하는 경험의 본질을 보여준다.
