The Richelieu site is the historic cradle of the National Library of France and its outstanding collections. It was originally the palace of Cardinal Mazarin, built in the 17th century. After more than 10 years of renovation and transformation, the Richelieu site, the historic home of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, finally reopen its doors on 17 September 2022. The Richelieu site of the Bibliothèque nationale de France is both a new place to experience culture in the heart of Paris and a new site to discover, in an unsuspected heritage setting. It includes a research library, a new museum, a new temporary exhibition space, the free and open Oval Hall, a garden, a bookstore and a café.

프랑스 국립도서관이 위치한 리슐리외 유적지는 뛰어난 소장품들을 전시한 프랑스 역사의 요람이다. 프랑스 국립도서관이 들어선 이 궁전은 본래 17세기 마자랭 추기경의 궁전으로 사용되다가 10년 이상의 개보수와 개조 끝에 2022년 9월 17일 새로운 모습으로 재탄생했다. 프랑스 국립도서관은 리슐리외 유적지의 새로운 랜드마크이자, 프랑스의 중심에서 고유의 문화를 풍성하게 느낄 수 있는 새로운 장소가 되었다. 오랜 공사기간을 거쳐 일반인들에게 자유롭게 개방된 사이트는 연구실, 도서관, 박물관, 전시 갤러리, 정원 등으로 이루어져 누구든지 자유롭게 드나들며 사용할 수 있다.

During the studies prior to the project, the question of preserving or destroying the central storage area was raised with regard to safety issues - fire resistance of the cast iron structures in particular - and functionality, with the idea of making this space a public reading room as an extension of the Labrouste room. located in the historic centre of Paris, the BnF is returning to one of its key missions to provide access to knowledge and culture for all in a magnificent setting. First of all, an entrance to the Vivienne Garden has been created, offering the possibility of a vast through hall that is accompanied by the elevation of the new main staircase in the centre of the composition. The series of beautiful rooms stretching from the courtyard of honour to the rue des Petits- Champs consists of the vestibule, the reading room and the book storage area.

프랑스 국립박물관이 위치한 건물을 상용화시키기 위한 보수 과정 및 연구를 통해 안전 문제, 특히 주철 구조물과 내부 노후화 등이 고려됐으며, 중앙 영역을 두고 보존 혹은 리모델링에 대한 다양한 아이디어가 제기되었다. 그중 중앙에 위치한 방을 확장시켜 공공 독서실로 변화시키는 아이디어가 채택되어 지금의 프랑스 국립도서관으로서 모습을 갖췄다. 비비안 정원에서 내부로 들어서면 보이는 상승 계단은 건물 전체를 관통한다. 계단을 따라 올라가면 펼쳐지는 일련의 방들은 독서실, 책 보관소 등으로 구성되었으며, 웅장하고 화려한 프랑스 문화가 반영된 내부 공간은 사람들에게 지식과 문화에 대한 접근을 제공하는 중요한 역할을 수행한다.

The new BnF museum encompasses the full extent of these rich collections over 1,200 m² and displays nearly 900 exceptional works. The Oval Room, a fully restored architectural gem designed at the very end of the 19th century by Jean-Louis Pascal and opened in 1936, offers free access to more than 20,000 volumes that enable visitors to discover the history of the arts and heritage, as well as comics and digital arts. Much more than a reading room, the Oval Room is intended to be an easy-toaccess place to visit and explore experiences of all kinds with innovative tools such as digital costume fitting, to take a playful journey through the BnF's collections. After 15 years of work, we have returned a building that has been profoundly transformed to meet the contemporary challenges of welcoming the public, opening it up to the city, and sharing and exchanging with the younger generations.

Bnf만의 매력으로 채워진 이곳은 과거로 떠나는 장난스러운 여행의 시작점이자 디지털 의상 피팅과 같은 현대의 혁신적인 도구도 함께 마련되어 있어 다양한 경험과 탐구가 가능하도록 의도되었다. 프랑스 국립 도서관을 방문하는 이용객들은 이 공간에 들어서는 것만으로도 현대의 예술, 디지털 문화뿐만 아니라 프랑스 예술과 문화유산의 역사를 마주할 수 있을 것이다. 15년이라는 긴 시간 대중들을 맞이할 준비를 마친 프랑스 국립 박물관은 젊은세대와 과거를 이어주는 연결고리이자 소통 창구로서 새로운 역사를 쌓아가고 있다.
