The case was an old building renovation project. The original building was a silk factory auditorium located in Lin Ping town, Yu Hang district, Hang Zhou. The factory had been unused since it was closed down in the 90s. In 2010, the local government marked out this area as a creative park, named ‘Xin Tian Di’(means the new world). The Owner of Maizn music restaurant has run a local well- known bar for 15 years. So he has lots of experience and very professional. When he got the property, he already had his plan. He targeted Maizn music restaurant as a new comprehensive catering. It opens at 12 noon, provides afternoon tea and casual dining. For dinner, it serves Chinese cuisine, which mainly includes creative cuisine.  At 8 o 'clock, the restaurant provides bar service and it opens until 2 o 'clock in the morning. 1000 square meters of space runs three modes of business, and this is the difficulty and challenge for designers.

On the spatial planning, according to different forms of business, we design the three window areas as afternoon tea area and dining area. The middle area around a stage is the bar area. From a business point of view, in order to let the bar area looks not very empty, we have done some BOX around the placement of strewn at random, That makes the bar look more atmospheric. Of course, the core design about this case is in the north area. It’s about 8 meters high. We divide the area into three layers of space with a number of stairs interconnected with each other which makes the originally single space becomes complex with rich layers. When you walk here, you can see people from all walks of life with different attitudes and states. The interaction between people is what we've been pursuing in commercial space, This is the real ‘fantasy city’.

On the choice of materials, we chose a large number of the old boards from local demolition. The old boards get a new chance to shine here. Using channel steel wire and comparison of old wood is an attempt to create the feeling of a heavy metal. This case mixes a variety of contemporary classic furniture. The shiny colors make the furniture jump out of the gray restaurant. According to different areas, We selected different collocations of  lamps and lanterns. Furthermore, the guests can also find some very interesting lamps and lanterns, which are furniture stylists ‘improvisation! Such as dining table transformed from old machine, lamps and lanterns from enamel cup and hot water tank production, etc. All in all, when people lost somewhere in the fantasy city, they might inadvertently find some interesting things that carefully designed by designers. 

Designers carefully kept the original building facade, the quiet yard, and retained the walls with time stamp and the every tree in the yard. We set up 3 small buildings between trees using the old windows. When doing the yard tiles, we deliberately kept the old path. We hope it can leave the people who had worked here some memories.
